Celebration of Africa Rising On June 19 Africa Rising hosted a celebration of its work at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, NC. Although we existed for several years as Carolina Hope, in the fall of 2007 we enlarged our vision and changed our name. As we moved from the support of two African organizations in two countries to the support of many organizations throughout Africa we became Africa Rising. To spread the word of our mission and progress, we invited people who are influential throughout our region to join us in the celebration. Honorary hosts included UNC President emeritus William Friday, Dr. Charles Sanders, and Dr. Eunice Sahle of the University of North Carolina African and African-American Studies Department. Guests enjoyed excellent food provided by Palace International, a Kenyan restaurant in Durham, and Mamadou Diabate's performance on a Malian Kora. Dr. James Thomas, the founder and president of Africa Rising described the organization’s work, providing stories and resources for spreading the word and getting involved.Guets enjoy connecting at the Africa Rising launch Back
