Exchange Visits

Africa Rising is building a network of learning and sharing among effective grassroots African organizations.  A critical way of strengthening ties in the network is to arrange visits and face to face meeting between organizations.  June 2010 was an exciting time of seeing Africa Rising partners connect.

Catherine Piwang, the director of Childreach Africa accompanied Africa Rising staff and board members on a trip to Norther Uganda in June of 2010.  In addition to hosting Africa Rising at her project sites in Northern Uganda, she also had the opportunity to visit two Africa Rising partners on the trip.  In the picture below Catherine signs the guestbook at CREED Africa.  Catherine provided encouragement to the community of Orisai Village by delivering a message on hope at a Sunday morning service.  After the service she was asked to plant a mango tree in honor of her visit.  Like the mango tree she planted, Africa Rising knows that the visit will bear fruit in years to come.

Catherine also visited Concerned Parents Association along with Africa Rising where she learned from staff about programs they are running to sensitive and equip parents to handle trauma their children have experienced.

In the picture below, teachers and administrators from CREED Africa, Millennium School, and TULIP meet face to face for the first time and talk for over three hours about challenges and innovations in their respective schools.  The group resolved to make exchange visits by teachers and students between the schools to continue the learning and sharing in months to come.
