Needs:
  • Contributions to enable particular projects (e.g., meetings)
  • Developing a relationship with a Western organization serving similar purposes.

Their story: As the snows of Kilimanjaro decrease from climate change, water becomes less available for the communities living on its slopes. Pamoja (meaning “togetherness” in Swahili) Trust worked for a fair distribution of the water by enabling all stakeholders – ordinary farmers, the government, and businesses - to have a voice in the discussion. Pamoja Trust works for the participation of all in policies that affect all. They have expanded their work beyond water into many other issues facing the communities living on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. Initially funded by the government of the Netherlands and two Dutch agencies, Pamoja evolved into an independent, Tanzanian run organization.
